How to get the most from BHC in 2009

There is an ever increasing demand for medical services but as a practice we are committed to reducing patient waiting times for appointments whilst maintaining excellent ongoing care.

We need your help
We have a wide range of services available and understanding the different options will help us run a more efficient service.

Same day appointments are available for emergencies. Our nurse triage clinic is available every morning 8.30 to 10am. Please phone on the day to book an appointment.
Our nurses are able to prescribe and can manage most minor illness (e.g. sore throats, chest infections, urine infections, fever etc)

Experienced and highly skilled nurses provide clinics for ongoing chronic disease management. This includes asthma, copd, diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure), epilepsy and heart disease. If you are due a review of your condition and medication then please request an appointment in a nurse led clinic. The nurse team liaise closely with the doctors and are able to prescribe for all chronic disease. You may need blood tests or to home monitor blood pressure PRIOR to your appointment – please clarify with reception if you are unsure whether this is necessary.

Contraception, sexual health screening and cervical smears are provided by our nursing team.

New or more complex problems are best dealt with by a GP. It is advisable to see your “usual” GP if possible as they will be more familiar with your care/situation.

Routine appointments are bookable UP TO 2wks in advance.

It is not usually necessary to see a GP to access results of blood tests or X-rays. These can often be dealt with on the phone.

Telephone appointments are available. These are appropriate for straightforward problems that do not require examination of the patient. If you are unsure whether a telephone consultation is appropriate please ask the reception staff.

To enable our staff to direct you to the most appropriate clinic/appointment it may be necessary to ask for some medical details. Please be prepared for this.

Directing patients to” the right clinician at the right time” will allow us to provide better care to all.

Thank you for taking time to read this.
