The surgery opens at 08:00 Monday to Friday and patients are seen largely by appointment. The telephone is often busy early in the morning, therefore if your call is routine, please ring later in the day. You may see the clinician of your choice but try to keep to the same clinician for a single period of illness. Urgent problems are dealt with that day.
Patients are able to book routine appointments up to two weeks in advance, either in person, by telephone or via the website. Some appointments are also released on the day and 48 hours in advance in line with DoH guidelines.
Advanced Nurse/Nurse Practitioner Appointments — Released on the day and 2 weeks in advance. ** Also bookable online via Patient Access.
Advanced Nurse/ Nurse Practitioner appointments are available on the day and pre-bookable 14 days in advance. These clinics are run by a highly skilled nurse practitioner who is able to help with many illnesses such as sore throats, ear ache, chest infections and urine infections. The nurse practitioner has the ability to prescribe, and in the event that you need to be seen by a GP urgently she will be able to allocate you an emergency appointment that day.
If you require a same day appointment with a Nurse Practitioner please telephone the surgery from 8am or you can book online.
If all our routine on the day appointments have been taken, but you feel it is a medical emergency that you need to see a clinician that day, you will be asked for a brief description of the problem and may be offered an emergency appointment with the On Call GP or signposted to an alternative service. Please note these emergency appointments are for clinical emergencies only and are not available instead of routine
It may be possible for you to have a telephone consultation with your Doctor or Nurse rather than coming into the surgery (providing this is clinically appropriate), so if you feel this would be right for you, please ask when you contact us to make the appointment. You will be given an approximate time when you will be called back for a 5 minute consultation, but if the Doctor decides that you need to be examined, we will arrange this for you.
If you have a question about your medication or treatment, or need health advice, it can be arranged for a nurse to call you back. This can be more convenient than coming to the practice for an appointment, but if the Nurse decides that you need to be examined, they will arrange this for you.
If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to reallocate this appointment to someone else. Please note that standard appointments can be cancelled via Patient Access
We have introduced a new service that allows patients who are currently registered at the practice to consult with a GP electronically, and offers alternatives to calling or coming into the surgery for common, more minor problems. Using this service you can also access self-help content, alternative options available to you e.g. pharmacy, symptom checkers, access to 111 clinicians and as already mentioned, the ability to consult remotely with a GP.

Please note: You must be over 18 and registered at our practice to use this feature.
Using this feature will require you to complete an online questionnaire related to your problem / condition. This information will then be passed onto one of our clinicians and the practice will contact you with feedback by the end of the next working day.

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10:00am. Requests received after midday will normally be visited the following day unless medically urgent.
You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls. Lack of personal transport will not be considered a valid reason for a home visit.
You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five year

Medical students spend time at the centre to observe medical consultations. The nursing staff also have students with them from time to time.
Please do not hesitate to let us know if you would rather see the doctor or nurse alone.
You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.
If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).
It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, now called a 'Statement of Fitness for Work’ (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise.
You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.
The 'fit note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.

All patients are entitled to have a chaperone present for any consultation, examination or procedure where they feel one is required. This chaperone may be a family member or friend. On occasions you may prefer a formal chaperone to be present, i.e. a trained member of staff.
Wherever possible we would ask you to make this request at the time of booking the appointment so that arrangements can be made and your appointment is not delayed in any way. Where this is not possible we will endeavour to provide a formal chaperone at the time of request. However occasionally it may be necessary to reschedule your appointment.
