What is emisaccess?

emis access

Internet Repeat Medication & Appointment Booking

emisaccess is a secure Internet system whereby patients can perform, on-line, certain tasks usually carried out over the telephone or in person.

We are initially offering the ability to:

We hope emisaccess will benefit all of our patients, even those who do not use it, in some way:

The system is run in conjunction with EMIS our clinical software supplier. All doctors are now available to book online, but nurses and other clinical staff are not yet available.

Is this a 24 hour service?

Almost. Due to nightly system maintenance the appointment system will be unavailable between approximately 11pm & 2am; so 21 hours a day, 7 Days a week, 365 days a year is probably a closer figure! Please note that during this period you will experience a logon failure (click for more info).

How do I use emisaccess?

You will need to apply to use the service first. This involves agreeing to our Terms & Conditions. You can either visit the surgery to sign or copy or click here to download a copy which you can print complete and return to us.

NOTE: You must be aged 16 or over.

Once successful, your sign on details and simple step by step instructions on registering will be sent to your registered address by post. These details contain:

You will use these details to register on-line (via this website) with the service (in a similar manner to on-line banking). It is at this stage you will need to choose your own password to gain access to the system.

Once you have registered you can log on for the first time using your Access ID and the password of your choice.

Booking and cancelling appointments

The first time you log on you will see a display similar to the image below. This indicates that you have no appointments booked.

Empty bookings page

To book an appointment click on the “Book a New Appointment” link (circled)

The system will show you a list of available GPs and their currently free appointment slots. See image.
Available doctor appointments

Scroll through the appointments until you find one suitable then click on the time of your choice. You will be taken to a screen similar to the one below:
Confirm appointment

Note that you can “choose a different appointment” if you decide that this one isn’t suitable for you after all. This will take you back to the previous screen.

Please enter a *brief* reason for your appointment (e.g. your symptoms). This is secure and confidential and will help both the GP and booking staff. Now press the ‘Book’ button.

You will now get a confirmation screen which also offers you the opportunity to print the ‘confirmation’ of your booking. Do print this -- it can be useful as a reminder. If you now click the “return to your homepage” link you will be taken back to the first screen. Here you will see your existing booking:
Your appointment

You will see what appointments you have whenever you log on or when you return to this page.

Cancelling an appointment

As soon as you know you will be unable to attend an appointment please cancel it.

This can be done by pressing the “Cancel?” link (circled on image above) on your appointments homepage.

The following screen allows you can to confirm the cancellation and also offers the opportunity to return to your emisaccess homepage or to book another appointment.

Please note it is standard practice policy that we ask you to notify us 24 hours before your appointment time when cancelling. We appreciate that this isn’t always possible but please cancel as soon as you possibly can. This appointment can then be offered to a patient who needs it.
